Singing Literacy Strategy
Additionally while learning new vocabulary words, it may also benefit students to learn better listening skills. They must listen and recall from memory what words are used in the songs. This can help improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Listening skills are crucial that students master, and this is a great way to promote that.
Another great concept that can be beneficial by incorporating singing into reading lessons is improving pronunciation and fluency skills. if the student can hear the word correctly pronounced throughout the song, it may help them learn how to pronounce words better. Additionally, they're learning rhythm, which makes it easier for students to learn fluency.
You can incorporate singing in music into your daily routines as a teacher in many different ways. It can be a great way to get students interested and hooked into the new topics. I also really like how it can allow students to grow all sorts of language skills.

ReplyDeleteThat is such a fun song! A lot of our students do not see the need to read with expression. They do not see how it helps comprehend the content they are reading the way we do. By having students listen and sing this fun tune can get them moving, laughing, and hearing how others may think they sound while reading. This could help take the pressure off the students and make having expression while reading more fun for all the students involved!
ReplyDeleteIt is also true how you mention that songs have a lot of repetition, this helps students remember and become comfortable with the word or words you are trying to teach them. Yes, writing the words is helpful as well. But when we incorporate music and movement, we get more students engaged and involved within their own learning.
Good Afternoon Abby!
ReplyDeleteI also believe that it is easier for students to grasp more concepts or words through songs. If you think about it, most people would agree that they can say all of the words in numerous songs over knowing all of the words from a short story. I can not see the negative side to incorporating it into our lessons.
