Language Development
Speech and language development is vital in any classroom. The way we communicate with our students, and the way they communicate with each other ensures that there is a smooth-flowing learning environment for everyone. As teachers, we must educate ourselves on language development and the potential discrepancies we may see in language development in our students. We need to be prepared to provide the best possible learning situation for the child struggling with language development issues. The only way we can do that is by researching and preparing ourselves to assist them in any way possible.
Language and speech delays could disrupt communication within the classroom. Communication could become a larger challenge. some individuals may struggle to advocate for themselves, and require certain needs, and resources to communicate their thoughts and feelings. This can make it difficult for a student to be successful in the class, so teachers must try to identify the best way the child can communicate.
Language development delays can also affect a child's ability to socialize and make friends. Once again, If the child is unable to communicate with their peers, therefore creates a struggle to engage in conversations and work on collaborative assignments together. This can be hard for a child because it could lead them to have hurt feelings, and feel frustrated. Students and teachers must educate themselves on the best ways to interact with individuals with language development to help them feel more comfortable in social scenarios.
There's no doubt that there are even more possibilities in ways that a classroom could be disrupted by language delays, however, it can always be improved with practice and repetition for the student. we must Implement strategies to help support these students and create a inclusive learning environment.

Good Afternoon Abby!
ReplyDeleteI believe that your words cut off the page so I am not able to read everything, but what I can seems fantastic! Also, I chose to include the same image and I think it is extremely helpful when looking at milestones for speech delay.
I love how Ashten and you both highlight how important your role as the teacher is. If we know how to help support our students we can not only close the gap a bit more in our students' learning, but we can give them the confidence and self-motivation many of our students with speech and language delays do not have. Building confidence and self-motivation is just as important as the speech and language all students need.
